Portage La Prairie's Junkyard Dogs are the host of this fat bike race. Taking place on their groomed trail system that is comprised of climbs and descents at their skills park, as well as their groomed single track river trails. You know it's going to be a blast at the Junkyard!

This is our first foray into the trails of the Junkyard Dogs in Portage La Prairie. Both singletrack and wider trails at their skills park will have something for everyone. ​

No GPX files needed. Just follow the turn arrows (or the bike in front of you).

There are several different course surfaces for this race:

  • Single Track (Red)

  • Paved/Gravel (Yellow)

  • Multi Track (Blue)​

Roads & Multi Track will offer passing opportunities

Race Organizer:

Race Formats:

  • Mass starts grouped by race distance.​

  • Racers will be seeded by their race plate numbers.

  • Want to be at the front of the pack? register early!

​​

Driving Directions:

  • Portage La Prairie is located on the Trans Canada Highway west of of Winnipeg.

  • Take the Trans Canada Highway Portage Bypass, and exit at PR 240.

  • Turn south, then turn East onto Norah St.

  • DO NOT park on River Rd south of Norah St. - this is part of the race course!

  • Parking is available at the Junkyard Dogs' Skills Park off of the South Service Rd.

Registration:

  • Online registration is encouraged, recommended and available at Zone4.

    • Registration ($35)

    • No MCA Race Licenses required, no Day Permits required.​

  • Choose which distance (1, 2 or 3 laps) you want to race in. Each Lap will be approx. 7 kms.

  • Walk-up registrations will be accepted, but early registration is encouraged.

  • Walk-up Registrations (day of event): $50 (cash or EFT)

Race Day Sign-In

  • Look for us in the Junkyard Dogs Skills Park, just off of the Trans Canada Highway bypass.

  • Registration/Sign-In will be at the South end of River Road - no parking will be available at the trailhead.

  • All riders must Sign-In in order to get their race number plates.

Date & Times:

  • All races take place on February 21, 2026.

  • 11:00 am Registration/Sign-In Opens​​

  • 11:45 am Call-Ups

  • 12:00 Noon - Start

​

​​​Start/Finish:

  • All races will start and finish at the Two Tired Trailhead, at the south end of River Road.

Categories:

  • 1, 2 & 3 Lap Male

  • 1, 2 & 3 Lap Female

Awards:

  • Prizes will be given to the top 3 finishers in each category once all races have finished.

  • Prizing amounts will be based upon total number of registrations - more registrations - more prizes! ​

Race Regulations:

  • First and foremost, this is a Fat Bike Race - minimum tire width is 3.8" (both front & back).

  • All racers bikes must operate a bicycle with both front and rear working brakes.

  • All racers will be given a race number plate at registration. These numbers need to affixed to the handlebars for identification during the race.

  • All racers must wear a CSA approved helmet while riding on-course and off-course.

  • Riders shall act and race with caution and respect for their fellow racers. They shall be held responsible for any accidents that they cause.

  • A racer must act in a sporting manner at all times and shall permit any faster rider to overtake without obstructing.

  • The organizer and/or officials retains the full right to refuse any rider from racing.

  • Due to weight concerns, and to preserve to trail grooming, E-Bikes will NOT be permitted.

Navigation:

  • GPX files will NOT be provided.

  • Course will be marked with Turn Arrows.

  • Or, follow the rider in front of you, and hope they know where they're going...

​Parking:

  • ​Parking is available, but there are limited spots close to the Skills Park. 

​

​Water & Supplies:

  • There will be no Aid Stations along the course.

  • There may be Water, Coffee, Hot Chocolate and perhaps some smokies awaiting you at the Finish Line.

Courtesy and Safety:

  • This is not a closed course - the course is open and the public can access the course at any point.

  • Keep your head up at all times.

  • Be courteous to others.

  • You are responsible for you!

Washrooms:

  • Washrooms will NOT be available onsite.

​​​​​

After Race:

  • Stick around after you complete your race. We'll have a bonfire going to keep me warm, but don't worry, I'll share.

  • We'll also have coffee and Hot Chocolate available.

  • We may even have smokies (and all the fixings) to cook over the bonfire.
